Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (RRR)

Aleah brought home her homework tonight for us to do together. They are working on a unit for Earth Day. She has been brainstorming ways to conserve so our earth is around for future generations. Tonight’s homework was to talk about the three R’s and ways we can contribute at home. Before Curt left for his flight for Cebu they were working on ways to Reduce. I was busy feeding Jones and asked her to start on Reuse and I would check in with her when I was done. Five minutes passed and I was able to talk through her ideas with her. For Reuse, she thought cans, water bottles and wood were good choices. I asked her to explain as I wasn’t sure she had the concept down correctly. She explained that we can reuse cans, because the Yaya’s (a Filipino nanny) can clean them out and use them as pencil holders! Now that cracked me up! Never have I heard or imagined that my kids would use this type of deduction and then include it in their brainstorming for a class assignment…only in the Philippines!
