Two Peas in a Pod
Although we still some time left here in Manila, I can't help thinking about what I will miss. Not nearly as much as I miss from home, but still there are some things that tear at my heart. One such item is this pair; Aleah and her best friend, Kate.
Kate is the youngest of 3 girls in a family that we are very close to. Kate's dad works for the same company Curt does and we all came here together, not to mention, Curt and Jim (Kate's dad) have worked together for many years prior to this. The first vacation we took when we arrived was to the island of Cebu here in the Philippines. We met Kate and her family there for the first time as their family first moved to Cedu for 4 1/2 mos before they moved to Manila. The picture below was taken in Cebu the weekend they first met in Sept of 07.All our kids hit it off, but this pair...this pair is something special. We could all tell from the first day that they would be good friends. Kate ended up in Aleah's class when Kate moved to Manila and the girls have been inseparable ever since. Kate has even gone to Aleah's swim meets and cheered her on. They are such an adorable pair! Let's not misunderstand the situation, they are mischief gone wild at times when they are together. Scheming and climbing on furniture and all sorts of 7 yr old stuff! But they are the true meaning of best friends. They get along wonderfully, they encourage each other and they NEVER tire of one another. I remember how precious these friendships were. I remember my first best friend, Ashley...(Ash, are you even reading my blog?) when I was 7 yrs old. Perfection! The absolute WORST thing about leaving Manila, is pulling them apart. It will be heart wrenching and I think all the parents will cry. The one thing we have going for us...we all travel well on both ends, so we are bound to vacation together. It would be such a sad thing if they never kept in touch. Krisann (Kate's mom) and I will move mountains to keep these two in touch. With a tear in my eye I take these photos of them this morning (cause of course Kate is here with Aleah) in their coordinated outfits thinking about how they have no idea the heartache they will feel or the lifetime of memories they are also making!
Friends forever...I think we all have one of those first really good friends that we never forget!
ReplyDeleteReally cute pictures!!! I just talked to my friend, Carol, back in Indiana, and she wants me to come for a visit this summer. We've been friends since 1st grade. I haven't seen her in 9 yrs.
