Kitchen Construction
As a number of you know, we have been remodeling our kitchen from afar. The idea being that we would return to live in our house this summer for good with a new kitchen and a fresh start. Well, half of that is still correct. We will have a new kitchen, but the fresh start will have to wait. Anyhow, I haven’t been posting pictures throughout this process, though I am not sure why I haven’t. It’s really a big chunk of what I think about (going home, that is) and gets me excited and full of anticipation that something new is awaiting me. This year we get to stay in our house for the summer as we aren’t renting it out. Good for me, as I would like to be the first person to use the kitchen!
Back to the construction…I started this process last summer while we were home for 5 weeks and I have been back twice since then for various holidays to further refine the design. I found some old (at times AWFUL) pics of the kitchen as it was originally. I wasn’t quick enough in asking someone to take “before” shots, so I had to dig through the archives and grab completely random pictures from various events.
Here is the layout for the “new” kitchen. I thought I would pass it along first so you can get a visual of the layout and help put the old kitchen pictures in their proper places of your mind.
The room at the layout is the dining room, it’s just not sketched in. This becomes important when I give you pictures from certain vantage points, now you know what I will be talking about.
From the old sliding glass door and windows.
From the old refrigerator.
From the dining room doorway.
From the bar area in the kitchen.
This is the view from the deck.
I realize the pics are pretty random, but hang in there!
Now that you have a visual or the “old” kitchen, I will treat you to a few construction pictures so you can see the progress.
Demolition began mid March. Here are a few pics from March 16 and 18th, 2009.
It looks so barren, but it still looks like progress to me.
